More Than One Road

Some songs are about arriving. This one is about turning the wheel. "More Than One Road" sits in that hour when a man admits the way he was going does not go anywhere good, and lets himself believe there is another way home.

Richard Dall sings it low and steady, a warm baritone over mid-tempo country-soul that never rushes the point. There is dust on it. There is a first light on it too. The song does not pretend the wrong turns did not cost anything; it just refuses to call them the end.

"You can lose the road and still find your way home."

It is a song about second chances that come without ceremony. No fresh start, no clean slate, just a hand back on the wheel and a longer road than you feared. The father in it is still standing. The man in it is still driving.

This one is for anyone who took a wrong turn and thought that was the whole story. For the ones starting over quietly, without an audience. It belongs to the album One More Hill, alongside "Drink You Off My Mind," and it carries the same spine: a man can lose his place without losing his spine.
